Udemy is an online learning platform that provides access to thousands of courses in 75 languages and over 180 countries. Any expert can register on Udemy and create his own course from French cuisine to piano to self-defense lessons.
The investment in Udemy pre-IPO was introduced on our platform in September 2020. Back then a single Udemy share was $25.5 at a total valuation of $3.3 billion. Within half a year, Udemy shares rose 57% on the private market and reached $40 per share in March 2021.
In October 2021, the company went public at $29 per share. The investment closed May 17 at $11.50. Its result excluding commissions: -55%.
Udemy's share price was affected by sluggish growth rates following the impact of COVID-19. Revenue in the first quarter of 2022 was up 22%, compared to an impressive 56% in 2020.
One possible growth point for Udemy in the future is the business segment, which grew 77% in the first quarter to reach 43% of total revenue. Adidas, Toyota, PayPal, Lyft, Booking, Pinterest, and HSBC are already using Udemy to upskill their employees.
