Market review from UTEX — week 44
Will the market come out of the red zone? Fed rate decision, Big Tech earnings, and inflation will decide.
Major U.S. indices closed the week in the red: SPY lost 0.79%, Nasdaq — 1.93%.
Top decliners among the largest companies: Lam Research (-15%), GE Vernova (-9%), Applied Materials (-8%), Arm Holdings (-8%), Alibaba Group (-8%), META (-7%). Top gainers: CrowdStrike (+13%), Palo Alto Networks (+9%), Royal Bank of Canada (+7%), IBM (+7%), Johnson & Johnson (+5%).

The main event of the week is the Fed's interest rate meeting on Wednesday. According to CME FedWatch, 90% of market participants expect the Fed to keep rates unchanged.
On Thursday, the preliminary Q3 GDP estimate and the PCE Price Index — an important consumer inflation indicator the Fed watches — will be released.

Others to highlight include Visa, Coca-Cola, Boeing, Eli Lilly, AbbVie, Exxon Mobil, Seagate Technology, GE Vernova, Robinhood, KLA, Amphenol, T-Mobile US, Intel, Mastercard, Merck & Company, and Caterpillar.
Top trading ideas for this week
🔴 Seagate Technology (STX). Report on October 27 after market close. A maker of hard disk drives (HDDs) and integrated data storage solutions. A very volatile stock, especially around earnings. It could be interesting for intraday trading; we don't recommend it for the medium term — it's very risky.
🔴 PayPal (PYPL). Report on October 27 before market open. In August, fintech Stripe and private investment firm Advent International withdrew their bid to buy the payments giant at $60.5 per share. PayPal wanted more. Nearly all recent earnings reports have produced a strong gap in the stock. In 2021, PYPL was worth above $300, while over the past six months the stock has traded in the $40–$60 range. We expect elevated volatility after the report.
🔴 Roblox (RBLX). Report on October 29 after market close. From October 2025 to July 2026, the stock fell from $140 to $33, where it found a bottom, and since then it has been slowly trying to recover. The introduction of strict rules (including age verification for chat access) reduced engagement among users under 13 last quarter. Investors are waiting for signs of stabilization. In focus is the viral simulator Steal an Egg, which launched in late July and literally exploded on the platform, holding top charts throughout Q3. Prices are quite attractive for the medium term, but it's better to wait for the report.
🔴 Intel (INTC). Report on October 29 after market close. Intel Foundry (chip manufacturing) is planned to break even by 2027. Any signals of narrowing losses in this segment could be a growth driver. The stock has fallen 28% over the past month, and volatility has increased sharply over the past six months. A large gap after the report is possible in either direction.
🔴 Reddit (RDDT). Report on October 29 after market close. Shares of the global social platform are traditionally very volatile after earnings. Since the start of the year, the company's shares have fallen 37%. In September, Reddit Max was fully launched — an AI advertising tool that automates targeting and creative generation. The number of advertisers using Max has grown more than 60% compared with Q1, and revenue from this tool has increased more than 150%. The report will allow investors to assess the first results of the product's broad rollout.
🔴 High risk, for professionals.
